“Hello Kitty” makes an appearance at a royal cremation


It may not have come through in the previous post that a cremation in Bali is a festive, and not a somber, affair.  With so many people in the streets, it is a huge festival atmosphere–with vendors everywhere, including this one w/ helium balloons of some of our favorite characters.    Christine Yano (Chair and Professor at Univ. of Hawaii Anthropology) will soon curate an exhibition of “Hello Kitty” in various guises.  


One of the Tower bearers also sums up the general mood-on-the-street (he was not the one who got trampled unconscious)
